Our first rescue was a wild success! 🐹
Yes, we found a lost hamster!
The story..
This little cutie popped up in the feed of one of our Sentries for the Sentient when our local wildlife photographer Moses Sparks posted it to a local group to ask if anyone was missing it. One of our Sentries for the Sentient was able to see his post and recognized this cutie as a domestic Campbell’s hamster and in need of rescue! Our Sentry reached out to the photographer to get a location and a plan was in place.
Equipped with nothing but his hands and an ice chest, Sentry Jack went to the location and scoped it out. He stood quietly and observed the creek scene from the photos and tried to see where the little critter might want to hide. The ground was bubbling with the tiniest baby toads and Sentry Jack had to be careful where he stepped. After a long time being quiet and seeing no movement, he decided to look under a downed branch, the last place anything could be hiding. Once he got up close, there was this cute little hamster, sitting by a small broken branch, by a creek, in a small mountain town, in the wilderness of the San Gabriel National Forest– somehow she was sitting there waiting for her rescue. Sentry Jack placed his hands around either side of her, gently closing the gap and corralling her into his grasp.
She is sweet, eating well, and loving her hamster cage that Sentry Jack had on hand to set her up in.
The locals who lost a hamster found theirs, so she is still looking for her owners if they are out there! We also had a tip that people were giving away hamsters shortly before she was found.

What a perfect save to start off with! By keeping domestic animals safe and indoors we can support wildlife health and safety. Protecting all sentient beings is our goal and we really mean it, no matter how big or small!
